Reclaimed Lerberg Etagere

Materials: 2 Lerberg Shelf Units, 4 Planks of Reclaimed Wood, 32 Screws & Washers

Description: This hack couldn't be simpler. In fact, I'm convinced I'm not the first person to think of this.

I picked up 4 planks of wood from my local salvage goods store, 2x6, each 6' in length. (These will replace the wire shelves that the units come with.) I also picked up 32 2" wood screws and 32 washers. I used the washers to protect the legs from the screws drilling too far into the metal frame.

before

My 2 Lerberg units gave me a total of 4 upside-down 'U'-shaped legs. You'll turn these legs sideways for this hack. (The Lerberg legs shift and move quite a bit. Their stability is created by the shelf. For that reason, it's best to measure and mark out your screw locations on your planks for even placement.) Screw the legs into place and voila - you have your new etagere!

LERBERG garden trellis

Materials: LERBERG dvd/cd wall shelf and rustproof screws

Description: My husband loves clean, modern design and hates the "country-style" trellises available at most garden centers.

His solution: mount LERBERG dvd/cd wall shelves outdoors using rustproof screws. They make the perfect trellis with no hacking necessary!

LERBERG as bookshelf extension

Materials: LERBERG DVD rack

Description: I am always trying to fit more books into our place. Now we don't have any more wall or floor space, but books keep accumulating...

So I came up with - not a real hack, since I didn't alter anything - but a new use for the LERBERG DVD rack.

Screwed to the side of a (BILLY) bookshelf, I get a little extension, that doesn't use much space, is minimalistic but can house a pile of paperbacks :-)

Now I am dreaming of a real hack: Connect two LERBERGs back to back (on a board) and fasten the whole thing somehow onto a SNUDDA Lazy Susan... But for that I have to find 40x40 cm floorspace.

GRONO & LERBERG LED Lights

Materials: Grono Lamp and Lerberg DVD rack

Description: Remote controlled multi-colour self adhesive LED lighting strip was used for these hacks. For the Grono the LED strip was mounted on a section of square plastic drainpipe (you can see the remote control sensor in the picture).

For the Lerberg a rectangle of frosted perspex was mounted behind the metal frame using clear silicon. Holes were then drilled in the perspex so the original mounting brackets could be refitted.

The LEDs were fitted to a length of rectangular plastic fan ducting.

Lerberg receiver stand

Materials:
Lerberg, Hacksaw, Drill

Description: I'd this idea of a new receiver stand in my head, paralleled legs in a slight angle with different shelves.

So I browsed a little on Ikea and find the Lerberg-shelf.

I shortened and bent the legs. Drilled new holes for the shelves.
It turned out pretty good. It is more stable than anticipated and could maybe even hold a 42" flatscreen for the future.

JUTISBERG guitar hanger

Materials: 1x JUTIS CD tower (discontinued) ; 2x LERBERG CD/DVD wall shelf ; Some pieces of wood (dimensions below) ; 8x nails -or- 4x nails + 4x L-shaped screw hooks ; 4x Nylon cable ties -or- strong magnets

Description: 1x JUTIS CD tower (discontinued) ; 2x LERBERG CD/DVD wall shelf ; Some pieces of wood (dimensions below) ; 8x nails -or- 4x nails + 4x L-shaped screw hooks ; 4x Nylon cable ties -or- strong magnets

JUTISBERG guitar hanger

Why?:
===
I was looking for a way to store my guitars when not playing Guitar Hero and I figured out they could nicely be hanged alongside my JUTIS CD tower.
I was now only missing the "hang" part and found out that the "LERBERG CD/DVD wall shelf" is quite fitted for the mission.

Full materials list:
===
* 1x JUTIS CD tower (discontinued)
* 2x LERBERG CD/DVD wall shelf (dark grey: 701.155.21)
* 4x Pieces of wood (see dimensions on the picture below)
* 1x Hammer
* 1x Saw
* 4x Nails (to comply with IKEA hack spirit I used the one of a AKURUM/FAKTUM cabinet: IKEA piece #101206)
* 4x L-shaped screw hooks -OR- 4x Nails (that you will have to L-shape yourself)
* 4x Nylon cable ties -OR- strong magnets
* 2x Guitar Hero / Rock Band guitars (tested with both PlayStation and Wii models)

Building steps:
===
01. Assemble both the JUTIS and LERBERGs according to IKEA manuals.
02. Insert the wood pieces A into both the front and rear of the JUTIS, between the concrete base and the first floor.
03. Place the wood pieces B on both side of the JUTIS, astride on the wood pieces A.
04. Fasten theses pieces of wood together with 4 nails. Now, this structure will be the base for the LERBERGs.
05. Place the hooks (or the bended nails) on wood pieces B so that they perfectly fit inside the small holes that are located on top and bottom of the LERBERG shelves.
06. Once done, place the LERBERGs on the wood base (watch the hooks) alongside the JUTIS: you will notice their tendency to fall...
07. Use a temporary rope or anything else to maintain the LERBERGs vertical until construction ends.
08. Insert a nylon cable tie through both top holes of each LERBERG. Make sure both cable tie ratchets are on the same side of the JUTIS: both front or both rear.
09. Join the two cable ties with the two remaining cable ties by following a cross-pattern (see schema for a better explanation).
10. Tighten the whole thing by regularly checking if the LERBERGs are still perfectly vertical.

You can now insert the guitar as shown on the picture and see how it perfectly fit.

Alternatives:
===
* The wood pieces B could have been a few centimeter longer and simple nails could have been used instead of hooks.
* The nylon cable ties used to avoid LERBERG falling can be replaced by strong magnets as both the JUTIS and LERBERG frames are made of steel. Simply insert magnet between the two at different levels.

Total cost:
===
11.50 (used JUTIS CD tower, bought in 2007) + 4.50*2 (new LERBERG CD/DVD wall shelf, bought in 2011) + 2/3 if you don't have the rest

Lerberg Shelf Art!

Materials: Lerberg CD/DVD Shelf

Description:
I didn't want to spend $100 on artwork that I'll change a year from now, so.... I decided to use fabric art! It's perfect.

To make: cut four pieces of cardboard to fit in shelf. Make sure it's cut large enough to cover opening, but not too large to interfere with the next piece. Wrap and use packing tape to tape the fabric on each piece. Then, use duct tape to tape on the shelf! Hang! Enjoy!

Reclaimed wood desk

Materials:
VIKA ANNEFORS, MICKE Storage unit, VIKA LERBERG

Description: I really love some of those reclaimed wood desks but they are quite expensive, so I decided to buy these white and clean table legs (VIKA ANNEFORS, VIKA LERBERG) and start a quest for old and damaged wood pieces to create a contrasting look.

1- I found redwood beams/mantles and cleaned and dry them for about 2 days.
2- I used some tools to distress even more the reclaimed wood, particularly the edges.
3- Using glue and clamps, I putted all the pieces together and added two metal joints underneath to reinforce.
4- I applied a wood stain and sealer coat to protect wood and enhance the color.

Voila! The desk or worktable stands out with all the other Ikea elements in white. You can be creative and add marks and elements as you wish (nails, decals, paint drops, etc.)
